About HFDE Ltd:

High Frequency Diagnostics & Engineering (HFDE) Ltd is specialist consultancy business that was founded to work in partnership with companies developing new electromagnetic wave sensor technologies and applications. HFDE has special expertise in the detection and diagnosis of partial discharge (PD) activity in high voltage (HV) equipment. Since 2018, we have carried out regular PD surveys of substation equipment and are increasingly involved with setting up long-term specialist PD monitoring installations.

HFDE strives to build open and effective working relationships with its partners and clients. Confidentiality is assured through the founder’s previous experience of working with commercially sensitive information and managing intellectual property (IP). One of HFDE’s distinctive operating principles is that it does not usually insist on owning any IP generated during the course of its work. This unusual approach helps to streamline product development and removes administrative delays that can otherwise compromise the window of opportunity for commercial exploitation.

HFDE’s founder, Dr Martin Judd, is a Chartered Electrical & Electronic Engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in the radar industry (R&D, production), academia (research, teaching, management) and as a business owner. Before founding HFDE, Martin was Professor of High Voltage Technologies at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, where he managed the HV Laboratory from 2001 to 2014.
